Writing is not all that difficult to get into. You have to remember though, that there are many things you will need to know in order to write a good story. This is why many successful writers say that they went through some sort of writing course or have some sort of writing degree.

Like art, writing fiction is a creative process, so there is no need for you to have a tertiary degree. If you look a bit further you will find that there are many successful writers that do not have a degree in writing. One thing to remember before you get started is that many new writers make mistake in the formatting of their script, manuscript or play. There are specific format for all of these things, so doing a bit of research into the different format is recommended.

The next thing you have to think about is who you want to write for. Do you want to target children, teenagers or adults and to what degree do you want to write fiction from a complex point of view.

You will then have to decide if you want to be in TV, film, books or theatre. Do you want to do short stories or full novels? Remember that you do not need to just choose one; there are many successful writers who have a good all round knowledge of all type of writing.
