Your maid of honor is the woman who has been there for you through just about everything, almost like your groom to be–for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, for better and for worse. She’s seen you through your greatest successes and your worst failures. She has even seen you looking gorgeous for a party, and woken out of a dead sleep with your hair in curlers. And she has agreed to honor you on your special day by assuming this important role. Make sure she isn’t neglected; give her a gift that will let her know how grateful you are for her friendship.

Think about the personality of your maid of honor. Is she the type of girl who would flirt with the groomsmen–all four of them at once? Does she like to fish off a boating dock on a hot summer day? Would she like to curl up with a good book and a friendly cat? Is she all three of these rolled into one? Remember that she isn’t just standing by you at the altar to hold your flowers. After carefully considering your maid of honor, brainstorm some ideas for presents. The fisherwoman might like a new bait or a few hooks; a book lover would love a new book (be sure it’s something she’ll want to read!); the flirt might prefer a gift certificate to a trendy club wear store. Think about unusual gift ideas as well–things that will complement her personality, but won’t be completely off base. Taking the time to brainstorm these ideas will help you finalize the best ones and pick the perfect gift.

A fun idea for a gift would be a get-to-know-you type game for you and your maid of honor to play. There are simple instructions to be found on the internet, or even your local library. Sure, you’ve known each other for years, but there might still be one or two things you may not know–and this is the opportunity to find out what they are. If done properly, not only will this game give the two of you hours of fun, but it can be played over and over again.

What kind of wrapping paper will you use for your present? Pick something as special as the woman you’re buying for. If you bought a flashy gift, make the wrapping elegant and eye catching. If you picked something more practical, choose a wrapper more in keeping with that idea, like brown butcher paper. Don’t just shove it in a bag, or even have a professional job done. And ABSOLUTELY do not give her the gift with the price tag still on, or in the store’s plastic bag. Gifts mean a lot more when the person giving has wrapped it as well, regardless of how perfectly it’s done.

Your maid of honor is that special person who occupies that special place in your life. Even if she hasn’t been there since the beginning, she should still be acknowledged as someone important. It’s not about how long someone has known you, it’s how deeply the friendship runs. Your maid of honor is a perfect example of that, and the gift you give should let her know that you’ve thought of it too.
